Kerrang Magazine
The dark background of the article gives the reader an inkling into what the genre of the magazine is, rock normally being signified through dark colours.
The red outline stands out to us, as it regularly shows danger, making us curious of who these people are and what they have to say. The shattered pictures and the canted text shows us how unpredictable these artists are and therefore we are drawn into what they are talking about.
The main headings not only stand out because of their formatting, but also because of what is actually being said, ‘1 big ball-sack’ and ‘bigger balls than an elephant’ the crude titles, work as the comedy of the article and once again makes the audience tempted to know what is actually going on, therefore, they feel entitled to read the whole article.
Vibe Magazine
In contrast to the rock magazine the Rnb double page spread is fairly contemporary, keeping a neutral black, white and grey theme throughout the article. This gives the idea of Rnb and Hip Hop being modern and new and therefore the most fashionable thing at the moment.
Adding to this idea we are shown a ‘barbie doll’ like picture of ‘Solange Knowles’ giving us this idea of perfection and beauty.
The use of text colour allows the reader to associate the texts to one another for example, ‘Now’ and ‘Solange Knowles’ catches the reader’s eye. The use of the smaller pictures, show the reader the different personalities that she has and therefore allows the audience to relate to these pictures more, than the perfect image we are given in the forefront of the page.
NME Magazine
the audiences eye to
the artist, Florence ,
do to her bright red
hair and her black costuming, standing
from the contemporary
background, very
similar to Vibe magazine.
The colour of her
hair and the colour
of the flag show a direct correlation
between the two. The way in which Florence is positioned gives us the idea of her being a conqueror over America , therefore giving us another correlation to the title which says: USA got the love. The play on words that are used in her song tell the audience of her success in the USA . The use of colour in Florence ’s appearance but nowhere else in the article, gives the idea of Florence being the colour of America not and even owning it.
